Kyle hates the holidays, especially those celebrated by almost everyone. Being the only Jewish kid in the town, he finds himself lonely at times.
Kenny is almost exactly the same, except he isn't Jewish. Being poor in South Park meant he wasn't allowed to have nice dinners on Christmas, get good presents on his birthday, or even enjoy a party on New years Eve.
Being the kids in South Park that hated the holidays, the two gravitate towards each other.
