In 1920s Augusta, Georgia, amidst the sweltering heat and deep-rooted prejudices of the Jim Crow South, Lena Thomas, a young Black woman with a fierce determination to become a seamstress and own her own shop, crosses paths with Calvin Calhoun, the reluctant heir to a sprawling plantation and all the burdens that come with it.
