Natalia Romanova has joined SHIELD 3 years ago, things have changed and gotten better but in a way they haven't - she has simply traded one prison for another gilded one. She is and has always been a soldier, she doesn't know how to be anything else.
She still hasn't adapted to life outside of the mission because she has never been given a chance to do so.
Her only chance at a life would be to quit SHIELD but she will never do that, she would survive of course, but she would never live.
But some people are trying their best to give her a chance, to find a way to ease her into being a person.
It's a trick, it's a ruse, it could make everything worse and undo all the progress she has made. But Natalia is stuck halfway between the hell of the Red room and the solace of a mundane life.
As a last desperate push, they send her undercover as her own self in suburbia, a house, a cat, time to read or make friends - under the guise of a mission of course.

Y/n grew up in Russia, forced into the Red Room by Dreykov at a young age, she quickly became a formidable assassin. Her path then took her to Hydra, before being sold to an organised crime group, working under a woman she knows only as 'Sasha'. Her past is full of lies, deceit and red. That is, until one assignment goes wrong - and her whole world changes. This is a slow burning romance between the reader and Nat, intended to feel more realistic and fulfilling. The story is set very roughly around 2016 (but with some details changed) and is original, therefore it doesn't follow exact events from the films.

When the mission goes haywire and she finds herself in the walls of the Avengers compound, she is faced with a decision that will go against everything she had ever learned and known in her twenty years in the Red Room. Does she stick around and become something she had been trained to despise? Or continue on in her vigilante ways of being the most renowned assassin since the Black Widow and the Winter Soldier? -- All characters that are not my own belong to Marvel. This story takes place between the events of Black Widow and Infinity War, and in a world where Civil War did not break up the Avengers. I am also playing with some aspects from the comics as well as the MCU, which includes Natasha being a super solider (with my own spin, of course). Maria Hill is one of Nick Fury's top undercover agents, and has taken down some of the best. Sent undercover once again to get close to Natasha and by extension, Wanda, what happens when things go not so as planned? - please please please don't read if anything that can be associated with crime like firearms, drugs, violent acts etc is triggering to you. i might make up character names and/or aliases here and there, but otherwise they are marvel's. storyline is also mine.

A young child is used to settle a debt. Many deemed her defective due to her inability to speak. But she didn't need to talk to get her job done. She trained diligently in hopes of seeing the world, even under the banner of corruption. She didn't care about any of the suffering she endured or caused. She was stronger than she appeared. But only a select few would know. The first person who showed her genuine kindness was a little girl with blue hair and shockingly green eyes. The two were separated not long after meeting, but the green-eyed girl left a distinctive impression. And the defective girl couldn't help but think about her when feeling particularly lonely. She thought of looking for her again after she could traverse the criminal underworld alone. But it was strange. Blue wasn't an ordinary hair color, and green eyes were surprisingly rare, too. She couldn't find her. But while she couldn't find the girl, those distinctions did ensure she never forgot her. That was at least comforting. Imagine her surprise when the world is thrust into chaos and a woman with the same eyes as that girl from her past catches her eye. She reminds her of that old missing comfort. The woman inspires her to use her training for good and to fight to protect the world alongside other heroes. They went from psycologically controling these girls, to full on mind controlling them. Training them to be assassians for one person to be in 'control' of the world. They take their childhoods from them, they take their emotions, and most importantly they take their free will. Natasha Romanoff got out. She became an Avenger. She became more then the assassian they made her. Never looking back. At least not after she thought she destroyed the Red Room. But she didn't really destroy it. And when she left, she left her two "sisters" behind. "Twins". When they were younger, they were all part of a "family". Undercover, as the two older agents with them were there to steal something. The mission lasted 3 years. Natasha knew it was fake. But the 6 year old Yelena Belova and Olesya Aleksandrovna, they didn't know. So they got thrown into the Red Room. Not a clue in the world as to what was going on. "Mother" probably dead from a gunshot wound. "Father" watching as they were taken away. "Older Sister" trying to save them, but failing in the end. So they spent the next 21 years, mind controlled. Forced to be assassians. No freewill. That is, until an older widow, cracks the serum. Finds a way to get the girls their minds back. So, the family comes back together. To end the Red Room. Once and for all. || Black Widow Spoilers! ||
