Juliet Ward is used to being good at things. School, competitions, strategy, solving problems - all of it comes naturally to her.

So when she decides to join her school's Rubik's Cube club with absolutely no idea what she's doing, she asks Nicky Bennet for help. He's quiet, smart, and weirdly good at reading people, which makes him both useful and frustrating.
What starts as a simple favor turns into an unexpected friendship built through study sessions, chess games, library afternoons, and a lot of unsolved tension.
But the more Juliet gets involved with Nicky and the club, the more she realizes something at their school feels off. Old records do not match up. Certain names keep appearing. And the deeper they look, the harder it becomes to tell whether they are solving a mystery or walking straight into one.
