Vampires used to be just exist in books, movies, and nightmares but they have always existed. Humans are no match for these creatures and they know it, which is why the government keeps their existence a secret. The government does what the vampires want in order to keep them happy so they don't try and take over.

Vampires need blood and so the government provides them with "donors". They take young men and women who are desperately poor and give them to the vampires. These humans are called Blood Whores since they get addicted to the feeling of being bitten.

Alex Hale lives with his dad in a small apartment. His mother had left when he was little and his dad had always had an alcohol and gambling problem. After gaining a lot of debt the government says that if he gives them Alex his debt will be cleared. Alex's father agrees, selling Alex off to be a Blood Whore.
