I pressed my back against the closest wall as the room beyond filled with his footsteps. My pulse quickened and the dark room filled with the frantic beating of my heart. I pulled my knees to my chest and tried not to sob, tried to be strong. Behind the door I could still hear him searching, and I flinched as I heard yet another scream. My heart froze as he stopped outside my door and the doorknob turned slowly. I curled my only weapon, - my hands - into fists and ducked my head as the door swung open, hoping he wouldn't see me.
I wanted to scream when his all too familiar voice resonated through the small room;
"Found you."
Instead I looked up and flashed him a shaky smile. "Took you long enough, can I kill you now?"

David bared his long canines at her, snarling and growling loudly. “I am no more a monster than your father is, Cass. You remember that the next time you get in trouble and need someone to bail you out.” He snapped his teeth at her and pulled away, retracting his teeth quickly. “Or the next time you feel like talking at one in the morning. You may have a gun, a badge, and cuffs, but you don’t have a cape. You’re not a superhero, Cass. You’re not invincible. You can still get hurt. You can still die.” “I’ll try to keep that in mind.” She replied, her words coated by sarcasm and defiance. He released her from his grasp and stalked down the hallway, forgoing the elevator for the stairs. Once she was sure he was out of hearing range, Cassidy gasped loudly and reached for her neck, gently placing her fingers on the delicate skin where his hand had just been. She swallowed loudly and felt the slight burn that had taken up residence in her throat. Fuck me, she thought to herself. In the sudden silence, the only sound was the thud of her heart and the whisper of fabric as the unseen figure closed the distance between them. Strong arms wrapped around her waist, and she felt a hand splay against her neck, gentle yet firm, sending a jolt of fear and unwanted excitement through her. The music remained off, and the crowd froze like a paused painting, their collective breath held in suspense. The warm breath on her ear sent shivers down her spine as he murmured, "Guess who?" His voice was a dark symphony, a promise and a threat wrapped in one seductive package.

"Cora..." I say with an annoyed tone. I throw her arms off my waist, and grab a hold of Claire's hand. She gives Claire a distasteful look then looks at me. "Couldn't you find a better date?"
