Sixteen-year-old Eliza Whitmore lives under the heavy expectations of her devout, upper-middle-class family in a conservative suburb of London. Her parents, determined to shape her into a celebrated classical musician, hire an elite instructor-Ms. Adrienne Locke, a former concert violinist who's brilliant, enigmatic, and, quietly, a lesbian.
