Lucas had learned, early on, how to read silence. He knew what kind of quiet meant he was safe, and what kind meant something was about to happen. The shift in his mother's breathing, the way the air in the room would change when her mood darkened-it was like a second language, one he never wanted to learn but mastered anyway. It hadn't always been this way. When he was younger, his mother had been his whole world. A single parent, stretched thin but warm enough in the beginning. He remembered small things-her singing to the radio while cooking, her laughter when he used to chase the dog in the hallway. There were good days, once. Days that felt real. But those had dried up like cracked earth, leaving only the storm behind. Her anger had started with words. Sharp ones. Names he didn't understand at first. Stupid. Worthless. Just like your father. Over time, the words got heavier, and her hands followed. A slap for talking back. A shove for asking questions. A full-blown tantrum from her for something as small as spilling milk. He learned not to cry. That only made it worse. By the time he was nine, he could clean the kitchen without being told. He knew how to keep the noise down, how to avoid eye contact, how to make himself invisible when her moods hit a low. Sometimes, she'd vanish for days-leaving him with a locked door, an empty fridge, and a stomach that learned to live on tap water and crackers. School had been a strange escape. A place where he could pretend to be a regular kid. But even that wasn't safe forever. When the bruises couldn't be hidden, or when the teachers got too curious, his mom would pull him out and move them again. A new apartment. A new school. A new name on the mailbox. He stopped unpacking after the fourth move. The worst part wasn't the pain. It was the loneliness. No one knew.

They balance each-other out. One the calm, the other the storm. Except when they don't. Except when she loses it and makes the place burn...literally. Who knew a burnt building would lead to three lost brothers across the country and a big ass house...after being on the run for almost a year. The twins are in for a crazy ride, but they're in it together. Always. Pinky promise. Will it be enough? TW: abuse, SA, r*pe, and mature language/scenes.
