Death of the World Tree

Even with a weak body, Cole always had a deep desire to help people and tried for years to become a firefighter. After failing every attempt due to his ailing health, he changed his goal, got his pilot's license, moved across the country, and became a forest firefighter who fly to fight fires.

During a routine fire, Cole is forced to extinguish it by hand, using only his basic tools and training. After hours, he successfully puts it out before noticing the sheer scale of the tree he saved. Collapsing slowly to the floor as he leaned against the tree, he fell fast asleep. While dreaming, the tree spoke to him of the nature of the world, its origins in the World Tree, and how the relentless fire was only the precursor of the great tragedy to come.
