The Darkest Forest is a horror fan story set in the Great Dawnfall universe and is a sequel to the Something in the Woods creepypasta. Written and published by Alexkiller345 on 2025.05.13. It's about an unnamed man who awakens in a mysterious forest, where he soon realizes that there are many horrors lurking in the darkness. No matter how he tries to get out of the forest, something always pulls him back into the depths. Nature is always taking revenge for humanity's actions against the forest. Something quite dark lurks and reigns in this darkest of forests, which the protagonist is drawn deeper and deeper into.

Humanity is struggling to survive in a world that's no longer theirs. Liv, a scavenger leading missions to the edges of the city for food, medicine, and iron, knows things are getting worse. Every trip feels more desperate than the last. Humanity has an expiration date-the forest, and the creatures that dwell there, just have to wait them out. When a mission turns out to be a trap and Liv wakes up on the wrong side of the tree line-alone, disoriented, and for some reason not dead-she learns the forest doesn't just kill people or take their souls. It changes them. She doesn't know what she's becoming. Only that it's something way stronger than what she was. And that killing things never felt this good. They used my vulnerability against me. They used that weapon, to make me accept their stupid idea. And I of course, accepted it, I didn't even know what they were going to do. They tugged and poked and even shoved their disgusting finger in your wound, just to see you cry. To see you change. No pitty in their eyes. They just continue. They drag you around with metal chains, hit you and turn you into a experiment. But I had enough of the tugging, the clawing, the moaning, the crying and pleading for them to stop, but simply feeding them with our pain. They turned me into something, that neither do they know what I am. Their afraid of me, of my reflexes, my strength. I killed a lot of them. They say I have a cold heart, that I don't feel nothing.
