Sam Pottorff had always been lonely. His mother died the day he was born, he only had his father left. But his father was distant and depressive, never seemed to care much about him. Sam never knew the extent to his father's rage until he came home drunk, and tried to kill his own son. Now on the run, Sam steals his father's car and heads for Oregon, as far as the gas tank could take him. He gets a motel room and a job at the boardwalk of the small coastal town. He meets a local, Kian Lawley, who shows him around, and Sam eventually tells him all of his terrible past. Will Sam be safe in his new home, or will his father come and find him?
