Loving the Unseen

Class dismissed. I slung my bag over my shoulder and walked out of school beside Jimin... "Why are you so quiet? You look exhausted," he said... "It's the mock test... I pulled an all-nighter... now I'm just drained," I replied... We reached the crossing. "Bye, Jimin-ah. I should get going." As I crossed the street, he stood there, still staring... Then-everything changed. Screeching tires. A flash of light. Darkness... I woke up in a hospital bed. My vision was blurred... I brushed my eyes and saw my grandmother. But she died a year ago... "Hayeon, how do you feel now?" she asked, as if nothing about this was strange... "You can communicate with souls," she told me, and when she said, "Don't even tell any human about this," I felt like I was no longer human myself... I returned to school, desperate to see Jimin... I was jealous. Angry. Heartbroken... and then, just like that, he saw me, shouting, grabbing my hand... asking where I'd been... "We broke up," I said. "I just want to be alone." He held my hand tighter... wanted to say something but said something else... and as I walked away, I knew deep down-this wasn't the end. It was only the beginning of everything we never understood.
