Remember when I asked you why you were single, Steve? Why all the other Avengers had someone in their lives, but not you?" Livia asked, her eyes fixed on him.
Steve smiled, remembering perfectly the moment when the little fourteen-year-old girl had come to him, worrying about his love life.
"Yes, I remember" he replied, his eyes on her.
"Do you remember what you said to me?"
"Yes."
Livia looked up at her father and the other Avengers in the room, but still spoke to Steve.
"You told me that you'd met the woman of your dreams many years ago and that even though she was gone today, you could never love anyone but her. That this woman was it for you." Livia smiled at Steve and continued. "I remember thinking to myself that this was completely insane. One person for the rest of my life? Just one?" Livia said, meeting Steve's amused gaze, but her father's curious one. "I couldn't believe it, and I honestly thought you were completely stupid, that you were going to miss out on so much."
Steve didn't feel hurt or judged by Livia's words, and Livia continued:
"And then I met Dean." She said softly. "And I finally understood everything you said to me."
