The System

In the year 6290, the earth is no longer able to sustain its population. If nothing is done, everyone would die. There are over 285,000,000,000 people living, no, suffering on planet earth. That number is a "few" billion too much. The planets government decides to make an enormous sacrifice, and starts a program called The System. The System is a powerful AI that draws 285,000,000 names every year, from the entire planet. The names are chosen at random. When you turn 16, your name is placed in the system, and for the rest of your life, you are in danger of being chosen. After earth's population dips under one billion, The System will be shut down, until it may be needed again. If everything goes according to plan, The System will shut itself down in 1000 years. From the chosen 285,000,000 people, 2,850,000 people will be double selected. Those people will be implanted with government issued chips, that will control their bodies. Trap their minds. After they kill all the people that were chosen by the system, they will be forced to kill themselves. But nobody wants to die...
