Claire is seventeen and comes from Bralwood, a relatively small village in Wisconsin. She lives in a home like many others, because Bralwood is also seen as a storage place for children, at least for most. At the age of six, she and her parents had a tragic accident, causing her parents to die. She herself doesn't know much about the accident anymore, just the physical fact that she lost a leg and has a post-traumatic stress disorder. Lily, a five year old child loses her parents in a horrible accident. Afterwords she is forced to live with her Grandmother who works all the time and has no time for a child. Lily, not knowing what really happened to her parents, and not understanding at all, she decides to take things into her own hands. At first she killed animals because she thought her parents were lonely where ever they were. After trying to kill her own Grandmother she was sent to The House, an insane asylum for kids. There she met seven other kids with situations similar to her own. Will Lily get better and go live with her family again or will she remain in a sense of denial enough that her sanity is in jeopardy? This story is told from Lily's point of view but it actually told by another girl with her little comments every now and again.
