Boys Will Be Boys

"Have you ever had a beer?"

I blink at him. He's waiting for my reply, his eyebrows low and curious.

I shift my gaze around the lift, almost like I'd find somebody else he must've been talking to. A breathless chuckle leaves me, "Uh," I shake my head, "Not really, no."

He hums, clearly still in thought about it. He folds his arms, "You ever wanted to?"

I swallow, mildly startled. Is he offering?

I shrug, and I feel my shoulders shake a bit as I do. My heart felt unsteady and so did the eye contact I was trying to bravely maintain.

He shifts around on his feet, and he's looking at me like I'm the one that's peculiar, "Right."

I might have shrugged another time, "I don't think about it."
