Alison DiLaurentis is a skinny, beautiful, and sweet as candy returning student at Rosewood High School that just moved from Paris, France. Her life is going nowhere until she meets Noel Kahn, a dark haired, handsome boy with a passion for music. Alison takes an instant disliking to Noel and the rude and disrespectful ways he'd learned during his years in Pennsylvania. 
However, when a street robber tries to hurt Alison, Noel springs to the rescue. Alison begins to notice that Noel is rather kind at heart. But, the pressure of Noel's responsibility as the captain of the school's football team leaves him blind to Alison's affection and she becomes extremely depressed.
