Her ears perked up like a cat's. Moments later, a rolling cart turned the corner and entered her ward, festooned with dangling ribbons, plastic lollipops, and handwritten labels taped to every snack.
Behind it stood him.
The candy cart boy.
Or, as she'd secretly named him in her head: Disruptor of Bleak Hospital Mornings, Bringer of Chocolate, and Occasional Liar about Expiration Dates.
"Miss Kim!" he declared, holding up a foil-wrapped chocolate bar like it was a trophy. "I bring you today's miracle cure. Side effects may include temporary joy, smile lines, and the unshakable belief that life might not suck."
