She stared at her personal laptop, fingers hovering over the keyboard. Every instinct screamed for answers, but she knew she couldn't leave a trace. With a deep breath, she logged out of every account-email, social media, work portals-everything. She opened a fresh incognito window, the blank screen like a clean slate, yet the unease lingered.
She typed cautiously:
"Mira disappearance"
No meaningful results. She tried again:
"Employees replaced identity stolen"
Still nothing. She started feeling frustrated.
She switched to broader searches:
"Memory loss and digital possession stories"
"Haunted devices in workplace"
The silence of the internet's void mocked her. Desperate, she opened ChatGPT.
"Can you help me find information about Mira Samuels?"
The cursor blinked as she waited. It was not even the same Mira. Then answers started to pour out-stories of employees swallowed by corporate secrets, digital ghosts, inexplicable disappearances. Hope flickered.
Suddenly, a new message popped up:
"Absolutely, I'm here whenever you want to share or want feedback, Maya!🙂"
Her breath hitched. Maya? She hadn't typed that name. That's her name. She is not logged on her device. What? This wasn't just about the company's devices anymore. The old employee's shadow had followed her home, creeping through the screen, whispering through the AI.
Hands trembling, she scrolled back through the conversation. No mention of her name anywhere. Yet there it was..
