In the Deep South during World War II, love blooms where it shouldn't. Jame Thoma-J.T. to most-is a teenager caught between identities. The son of American and Australian heritage, he's spent his life on the edge of belonging, watching the world divide itself into sides. When the war reaches their sleepy town and soldiers ship off one by one, J.T. expects to follow-but everything changes the day Naomi walks into his classroom. Naomi, quiet and composed, is the daughter of Japanese immigrants trying to keep their heads down in a place that sees them as the enemy. Against all odds, a fragile connection forms. One built on pinky promises, shared books, and secret glances when no one's looking. But the world is looking. With war raging overseas and prejudice rising at home, J.T. must choose: keep quiet, or stand up for the girl who taught him what love really means. In a world of smoke and fire, can something as delicate as a petal survive?

In 1952 Kenya, 18-year-old Wanjiru Karanja's world shatters when British soldiers burn her village and murder her father, leaving her consumed by rage. Defying her mother's expectations of forced marriage and tribal circumcision, and the colonialists' demand for silence, Wanjiru embarks on a different path. By day, she navigates the rigid world of a missionary compound, but by night, she secretly joins the Mau Mau rebellion, becoming a silent warrior against the British. Her resolve is tested when she falls for Jane Sinclair, a compassionate white British missionary with a haunted past. Their forbidden love blossoms amidst a brutal war, becoming a dangerous act of resistance in a society that deems their bond treason. Hunted by an empire and rejected by tradition, Wanjiru and Jane must risk everything-not just for their love, but for freedom, for their country, and for a future that no one else dares to imagine. In the shadow of the sacred Mugumo tree, a rebel rises, fighting with a gun in one hand and a diary in the other. Can their love survive a war for liberation, or will the fight for freedom demand the ultimate sacrifice? 🏆 Ranked #1 in Kenya, African History, Women's Voices, and Colonialism. Top 5 in Nairobi.
