Hafeezah, a devout 23-year-old African American nursing student from Baltimore, moves to New York for NYU. She's soft-spoken, stylish in her abayas, and deeply rooted in Islam. But when she meets Malik, a 6'4 Palestinian engineer with light green eyes, streetwear drip, and a quiet demeanor-her world shifts.

Malik is not on his deen. He struggles with faith, choosing the dunya, culture, and rebellion over religion. But something about Hafeezah makes him pause. Her strength. Her peace. Her faith. Her fire.

Their connection grows-but so do the trials:

• Malik's Palestinian culture clashes with his feelings for a Black woman.

•His family's expectations vs Hafeezah's identity and values.

•Racism, subtle and not-so-subtle.

•Malik's inner battle with Islam, and slowly rediscovering Allah through love, not fear.

•Hafeezah holding on to her deen and refusing to fall for a man without the intention of nikah.

•This is not a love story of kisses and touches.
This is a love story of sacrifice, sincerity, and spiritual transformation.

As Ouahib arrives in town , carrying the weight of a family that has weathered hardships, including parental separation, and the lingering echoes of a once vibrant home, he embarks on a new beginning, yearning for a different chapter. In contrast, Aaliyah experiences an upbringing unfolding in a home where love takes center stage. Raised by parents who provide a foundation of stability and affection alongside with the importance of their deen, her life stands in striking opposition to Ouahib's challenging past. The classroom transforms into a space that goes beyond textbooks, evolving into a platform where their backgrounds harmonize. Their shared academic journey becomes an opportunity for Ouahib to redefine his narrative and for Aaliyah to explore love amid life's trials. In the corridors of knowledge and the heart of the city, Aaliyah and Ouahib's love story unfolds, threading through the intricacies of family dynamics, resilience, and the transformative power of shared experiences. Importantly, both Aaliyah, a thoughtful Pakistani girl, and Ouahib, a determined Moroccan boy, integrate their Deen into their lives, influencing their perspectives from early on and shaping their upbringing. Kulthum is going through something. It could be a hormonal shift, another round of her "rebellious teen phase" even though she's now twenty-two, or an identity crisis. Whatever it is, Kulthum has changed. She can feel it, and everyone can see it, but no one can cite a reason for it-including her. When Kulthum comes home from her third unattained university degree, lugging more than suitcases, her parents have had enough. They decide to do what every African parent living in the United Kingdom has once threatened to do. They ship her back home to Nigeria. With a one-way first-class ticket, Kulthum finds herself stranded in the busy city of Lagos, stuck with a family she knows nothing about and surrounded by her culture, which feels completely foreign to her. Her parents hope her year abroad will cause her to have a change of heart...but Kulthum meets a man who might steal it. - - - - First Published September 28th 2024. "So you approached me without being aware of my identity?" He asks me, while raising an eyebrow. To say I was shocked would be an understatement. It takes me a while to compose myself and form a sensible reply. "Yes, I wasn't aware of your identity." "You might think you can fool me, but trust me, this has happened quite a few times before as well." He says with a very serious expression. I'm baffled by his accusation. This man has the audacity to question my intentions when he's the one trying to converse with me all along. I don't know what comes over me, but whenever I'm overwhelmed with anger, it turns into tears. And before I can compose myself, I taste the salty tears in my mouth. I take a few deep breaths, place the cup on the side table and get up to leave. "Thank you for your hospitality and your excellent assessment of my character. I will now take your leave." With that, I turn to head towards the door but he grabs my hand and pulls me towards him. Characters: Ameerah is a happy-go-lucky 23 year old who has recently graduated from med school.
