The Gun Story

The Gun Story is a hybrid police-drama meets spiritual-mythic allegory, exploring how centuries-old legacies of colonialism and arms trading reverberate through a single family in contemporary London. When teenaged Daniel is arrested with a gun, his mother Idia a high-powered barrister intends to defend him by every legal means. Yet three deities (Chuku, Atia, and Ogun) descend into her flats, projecting visions of Benin Kingdom glory, war-torn landscapes, and Daniel's future as a convicted murderer. Each vision implicates Idia and her husband Kayode in a wider moral crisis: their cultural dislocation has left them ill-prepared to shield Daniel from forces beyond London's courts.

In the end, Idia must bridge her professional skills with her ancestral heritage. The play's final moments Daniel's innocence claimed, yet Ogun's stern warning to return to the village underscore a central question: Can modern life alone deliver a justice, or must one also reclaim spiritual and cultural identity to disrupt cycles of violence and bias.
