The same name as one of Shannon's worst bullies. That alone is enough for Tadgh to write her off.
But the more he watches her, the more he notices the cracks in her armor. She's tired all the time. Avoids talking about her family. Shows up to school with suspicious bruises she brushes off with weak excuses. And sometimes, when she thinks no one's looking, she seems completely and utterly lost.
