On that fateful night in October of 1981, Voldemort casts James aside-red light flashing from his wand, not green-before climbing the staircase to satisfy fate and put the prophecy to rest. Lily sacrifices her life for her son, and Harry becomes known throughout the Wizarding World by the age-old title: The Boy Who Lived.
Lily died for Harry, and now, broken by grief, James must learn to live again . . . for Harry. And when Harry heads to Hogwarts and danger seems to stick to him like a shadow, the three remaining marauders stick just as closely, determined to protect him at all costs.
In short: Shadows of Fate tells Harry Potter's story as it would have been, if only James Potter had lived to be a part of it.

Its been two years since the marauders have graduated. James and Lily are married with a baby on the way, and Sirius and Peter are very busy with the Order. Meanwhile, Remus is just trying to survive his transitions in such a volatile time. No one wants to hire a werewolf, and the Order isn't well enough equipped to handle the full moons. Dumbledore offers him a position at the Hogwarts library as an assistant. There he can do research for the Order, as well as spend his moons like he did during his school years. Tessa Downing is a sixth year Hufflepuff. After a summer of chaos and hiding, she's having trouble transitioning back at school. Constantly worried about her muggle parents, Tessa's grades slip and she begins to spend more time at the library. Thankfully the new assistant is willing to help her.
