He held him tighter. "I was stuck on something urgent. My phone... it died before I could text. And I didn't realize it until I was already on the way back."
Taehyung pulled back a little, just enough to meet Jungkook's eyes. His own were red and swollen, lashes wet, lips trembling.
"You can't do that," he said hoarsely. "I-You're all I have, Jungkook. I can't go through that again. Not knowing. Not losing someone and not knowing until it's too late-"
"I know," Jungkook said quickly, cupping his cheek. "I know, moon. I promise it won't happen again. Never again."
They stood in the doorway, rain misting against their skin, arms around each other like a tether.
Taehyung pressed his forehead to Jungkook's and closed his eyes.
Jungkook's breath was warm against his lips when he murmured, "Let's go inside. You're freezing."
"Only if you're not leaving again," Taehyung whispered back.
