When seventeen-year-old Sadie Quinn arrives at the remote Halcyon Isle in place of her ailing aunt, she expects to spend a quiet week cataloging rare books. Instead, she finds herself stranded with ten strangers in a stark, brutalist mansion owned by the enigmatic billionaire Richard Dane. On the second night, Dane is found dead-an apparent suicide in his locked study. But as the storm cuts the island off from the world, Sadie begins to notice details no one else sees. A torn page, a missing bottle, a silent figure watching her from the cliffs. Drawn into an unraveling mystery, Sadie forms a reluctant bond with Jules Dane, the aloof grandchild of the victim. But the deeper she digs, the more she realizes that everyone on the island is hiding something-including Jules. And someone is willing to kill to keep the truth buried.

It wasn't very difficult to plan out my first victim. I watched them all day, studied their movements, listened to their conversations, and watched them fall asleep. The funny thing about it was that I was just a few feet away from them. But how could they have known? Why would they have to be scared for their lives when they were oblivious to how fast I could end them? When all goes wrong, nothing else can go right. A last week school field trip could cost you your life. But why think that way when the trip has yet to begin. When a group of five friends go on a school field trip to the woods, things seem normal until one of them goes missing.
