It all started long ago, at the border. Derek was merely a boy then, scrappy with messy black curls that framed his face, tangled from the wind. His fingers had been grazed by thorns and were dripping small drops of blood as he got his first glimpse of The Moors. A forbidden place beyond the kingdom where magic not only lived, but thrived. Derek gasped, nearly falling backwards as a young girl with hair the color of fire and vibrant green eyes that resembled fresh cut emeralds appeared in front of him. Her wings fanned out behind her, black and gold and almost too elegant to be real. The girl was beautiful, there was no denying that, but there was something about her, something dangerous lingering beneath the surface. Derek should have been terrified, should have turned and ran the moment he saw her, but instead he stayed, and shockingly, the girl didn't kill him.
