Some truths are buried in blood. Others are carved into fate. Zuri Riley always believed she was human-an art consultant with a mysterious past, raised in a quiet town, trying to lead an ordinary life. But when a haunting stranger appears at the summer gala and a long-dormant power stirs beneath her skin, her carefully constructed reality begins to unravel. Secrets surface. Dreams speak in ancient tongues. And the man with ember-flecked eyes? He's not just watching-he's protecting her from a darkness older than the human world. Nyrix Vane, enforcer of the Dark Fae Court, has upheld the ancient laws that guard the fragile veil between the human and fae realms. But when a rogue fae begins murdering humans for sport, and all signs point to Zuri as the next target, Nyrix is forced to choose between the law he's sworn to uphold and the girl who may be the key to a prophecy long forbidden. As Zuri's powers surge and danger closes in, the line between duty and desire begins to blur. Because Zuri isn't just different-she's fae. And loving her could cost them both everything. Magic. Betrayal. Forbidden love. The veil is thinning. And once it falls-no one will be safe.

Everyone she knew and cared about was murdered in a twisted idea of fun, she was the only survivor. Quickly dumped into a world of supernatural Aurora must find her place despite the fact a possessive werewolf seems to want to tell her what to do. Can she adjust or will she crumble under the pressure? Excerpt: The screams and cries for help faded while silent tears continued to stream down her face. Her hands were slapped over her mouth to muffle any noise that escaped her quivering lips. She wasn't sure how long she was in that pantry but couldn't come out until she was beyond certain that they had left. For a moment, she started to have hope that maybe they wouldn't be able to find her, but a voice spoke up, and fear flooded in once again. "You cleared out the upstairs, too, right?" "Yeah." Another voice responded. There was a slight pause, "Hmm. Then where is that heartbeat coming from, I wonder." His voice had a sickening amusement to it, and her heart rate uncontrollably spiked with the adrenaline pumped through her veins. Was he talking about her? The thought that he could hear her heartbeat was crazy. It just wasn't humanly possible. Footsteps grew closer to the kitchen. Somehow, they had found her. She said one last prayer and goodbye to her life as the pantry opened. "Boo." The man yelled, peering in at her. She was frozen. There was nothing more she could do. She was going to die. "Little Birdy," he stretched out his hand, "come out to play."
