Katsuki Bakugou had been born deaf. He didn't remember the world ever sounding any different than it did now-quiet, muffled, and pulsing with a rhythm only he seemed to follow. He could feel vibrations, read lips decently, and use sign language fluently. But words? Words were distant things. Everyone else lived in noise, while he lived in silence.
Izuku didn't stare like the others. Didn't whisper. He just... watched. Not in a creepy way, but with this gentle curiosity, like he wanted to understand. Katsuki caught him looking during homeroom, and then again during introductions, and again when they broke into pairs for quirk assessments.

Every time the blond thinks he's about to catch him, the boy slips through his grasp. Katsuki Bakugou was almost completely deaf. He could barely hear his own explosions anymore, but that didn't stop him from trying to become a pro hero. He couldn't wait to prove everyone wrong when they said he couldn't be a hero because of his hearing loss. He manages to pass the UA entrance exams and gets accepted, along with his childhood friend, Midoriya. They're placed in class 1-A with the luck that the home room teacher actually knows asl. The transition from middle school to high school isn't the smoothest. Navigating through high school and the pro hero world is hard for someone with all five senses, let alone someone who couldn't hear. Katsuki stumbles... a lot. When Midoriya catches him staring at the duel haired boy in their class during training, he's quick to tease him for it. They sign quickly, Katsuki's movements for aggressive than normal. They gain the attention of Shoto Todoroki, who in turn, stares back. It was obvious that they were signing about him, but he had no clue what they were saying. Katsuki catches on to the staring and signs at him, even though he can't understand. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Katsuki turns to the taller boy, clearly in a pissed off mood. "Yes, I am signing about you." He signs at him, knowing that he won't understand him anyway. Midoriya's laugh was heard through the training ground as he saw what his friend signed. Shoto looked at him, completely lost.
