I always knew my father was troubled. When my mom was still alive, it was easier. She grounded him in a way only soulmates can. He didn't have to say anything, she always just knew.
After she passed, he turned to me for that constant understanding, stability. I couldn't give him that. I barely acknowledged him when he told me he was going to find the one true religion. I didn't care. From where I stood, I couldn't begin to imagine that the person who had ripped my mom from me so early in life was worth worshiping.
