> The blood didn't drip-it hissed.
The moment it touched the Mirror of Virelith, the obsidian cracked in a single, sharp line. Gasps rippled behind me. I didn't dare turn around. I couldn't.
My pulse thundered. My blood felt... wrong. Alive. It raced through my veins like a storm trying to escape its cage.
Control it, I told myself. Contain it.
"Interesting," came a voice behind me-low, disinterested, amused.
I turned just enough to see him: Damien Caerthynis. The prince of fire himself. Gold embroidery on his high-collared coat, eyes like tempered steel, arms folded as if watching an insect struggle on glass.
He stared at me like I was a riddle with too many dangerous answers.
I hated that my lungs stalled for half a second under that gaze.

I should've turned away. I should've dismissed her as a fluke, a glitch in the bloodline order.
But the moment she looked at me-I knew.
I would not forget her. And if I wasn't careful, I wouldn't survive her either.

My eyes finally adjusted and I got a good look at the guy. Holy shit, he was HOT. He rivaled Lazarus, and that's saying a lot. A cold, dark laugh filled the room, sending a shiver down my spine. "My, my, look how afraid you are, my Sera," he mocked. I could feel him getting closer, his presence suffocating. Suddenly, he yanked my hair back, hard. I screamed in pain, but I refused to open my eyes. "Be my good girl and open your eyes, Seraphina," he commanded, his voice low and dangerous. "Never," I growled in defiance. I couldn't believe the Moon Goddess had mated me to this monster. I despised him. Every inch of my soul hated him. "Give me all the pain you want, but I will never obey you," I spat, my voice filled with hatred. He chuckled darkly. "Then, as you wish," he murmured. I barely had time to process his words before sharp pain pierced my neck. His fangs sank into my flesh with full force, tearing through my skin. I woke to a sudden breeze invading the warmth from the heavy blanket that caressed my skin. Here, alone with my thoughts, the still, calm quiet in the atmosphere is almost painful. I feel suffocated in the clingy, static air. In quiet, still moments like these, I can almost feel Him. I don't know who "Him" is, but I can feel his presence. It's almost calming, especially on fearful, anxiety fueled nights. Usually, he was the strongest when I had a nightmare. The nightmares weren't as common now, but, right after everything happened, I was having them every night.
