Jace Mercer and Rowan Carter are two totally messed-up teens trying to figure out life while everything around them is falling apart. Jace's got a rough past - his family's broken, and he's been doing his best to keep it together, but he's carrying a lot of pain and secrets. Rowan looks like the perfect girl on the outside, but at home, it's a total mess - her mom's struggling with addiction, and her dad just left without looking back.

When they meet in English class, it's like they get each other in a way no one else does.
