Artemis Jay Connor's world has changed once again like it did in 1965, when she dresses as a boy and was sent to Vietnam. Everyone said the same thing: Communism was an evil that had to be stopped; these were the Cold War years. Dangerous times. If a great man like President Kennedy could be shot in broad daylight by a Red in Dallas, how could any American feel safe? Everyone agreed that communism couldn't be allowed to flourish in Asia, and Vietnam was the place to stop it.

Decades later, Artemis fought in the War on Terror as the new Captain America, until Steve Rogers came back onto the scene in 2012 and she passed the mantle back. Surprisingly, they work well together and form a deep friendship, despite Artemis hating his guts, but she understands the trauma of coming home to a changed America. But the Winter Soldier still looms large in her mind, and she's determined to get him out.
