There was a time when it only howled through the trees, brushing past rooftops like it didn't care who listened. But lately, Vivianne had noticed how it paused near her skin, like it wanted to say something.
Like it knew her.
Vivianne told herself it was nothing. Just the cold. Just her imagination. But deep down, she already knew better.
She'd never been the kind of girl to believe in omens-that was more of a Lydia thing. But the quiet had been too loud lately. The nights too still.

"Lydia?" She called, practically breaking through the door as Mr. Martin and Melissa McCall joined her inside the bedroom. "Lydia!" "What the hell was that?"
