The silk saree clung to my skin like a cage. Gold ornaments weighed down my arms. I couldn't breathe under the layers of fabric, let alone the pressure of his eyes on me.
He hadn't said a word since the ceremony.
Now we were alone.
He stood near the window, shirt half unbuttoned, jaw clenched, whiskey in hand. Watching me like I was prey that had already lost the right to run.

I took a step back. He didn't move.
Another step, and my back hit the wall.
He approached slowly, like a storm choosing exactly when to strike. His hands didn't touch me yet - just hovered inches from my skin, daring me to flinch.
I did.
"Still scared of me?" he whispered.
I nodded.
His breath ghosted across my neck as he leaned in. "Good. Fear is honest. Everything else is a lie."
And then he touched me.

My wrists were pinned. My breathing ragged. My voice trapped somewhere behind my teeth.
