The snow is blowing parallel to the ground, north to south and is as dense as I’ve ever seen it in the east of England; my boyfriend was driving us home from a meal at Café Rouge where he had met my parents for the second time. “I have had enough of this, why did you have to say that to my mum? I mean, my mother!” I shouted at Keelan. He turned his head to face me; I was sitting in the passenger seat. “It was only banter, look, Abbie I’m sor-‘’ he was cut off by my scream, there was headlights speeding towards our car and before there was any time to react I felt the colossal impact. The car lurched and I was thrown forward violently, the seat belt biting into my chest and knocking the wind out of me. The sound of raining glass echoed in my ears as an airbag exploded in my face. I managed to take one last glare at Keelan, he was slumped across the steering wheel, and I tried to speak but no words came out, the only three words I could croak out was “I love you” and my eyes closed slowly. I am in a heavy black cloud, nothing to see, nothing to hear. I slowly lifted my heavy eyelids as the strong smell of anti-bacterial cleaner filled my nose. My mouth was dry and I smacked my lips a few times. I was lying down, in a bed it seemed, and the room was bright. Light from the window reflecting off the white walls, making me squint and wanting to close my eyes again. I felt like I had slept for years, but I was still tired. I heard the beeping of a machine and slowly turned my head towards the source of the noise. The muscles in my neck were stiff and sore. I saw my mother sitting in a chair by the window, sleeping it appeared. A doctor walked in and noticed I had awoken, he says my name repeatedly as I try to remember how to talk. No words come out, and I blink hard. Again he calls my name and gain I try to answer. Suddenly I clear my throat, I feel like I’m about to shout. But all that comes out is a tiny whisper 'What happened?"
