Magic is sentient, amorphous, and huge pain in the ass. In her last semester of college Atalanta Fae unwillingly inherits her grandmother's magic, spell books, and magical staff. But it turns out that the staff is an old cane and the magic is a loudmouth that keeps whinging about its rights. As for the spells, all of them are useless and some of them could get her arrested. To make matters worse eldritch beings, bothersome curses, and third-rate villains are cropping up everywhere leaving people quite disgruntled. With exams looming and her grades suffering Atalanta is inclined to agree with popular sentiment: Magic is more trouble than it's worth.
