Alexus Smith lived and made the best of his life in Hagford. Despite his young age, he was the count of the Silths house, a magic murder detective, a friend? to the best person he ever laid eyes on, and had the support of someone he admires. 

Yet.

He was unsettled. It creeped up his legs, wrapped his being, grabbing his neck and with a suffocating hold, slowly twisted his head, to look back. Resist too hard and it'd crush him. It had long been ignored until it couldn't be. Not anymore, when it had started to get to him and it affected those who thought they knew him.

Things start to descend into the worst when his current case maybe too hard to even bite. Several bodies arise, a renowned criminal on the run, an unseen attacker, and a powerful sorcerer in his way. The truly worst thing here is it all leads to someone the whole realm adored.
