Avalon Aletheia Hawthorne is the new girl in town with too much energy, too much impulsivity, and something strange ticking behind her eyes. But Hawkins, Indiana, isn't what she expected. The town is quieter, stranger, and far less ordinary than it looks, and nobody-not even Avalon-can explain the nosebleeds, voices, or dreams of a girl she's never met.
After transferring in the fall of 1984, Avalon quickly finds herself pulled into the lives of kids like Max Mayfield, Will Byers, and a few others who don't quite fit in either. She loves people easily, maybe too easily. As Halloween approaches and the shadows in Hawkins deepen, Avalon starts to realize something's wrong. With the town. With herself. With whatever's calling to her in the dark.
And she might not want to know the answers. And she didn't ask to be part of the weirdness, but it seems like the weirdness already knows her name.
