Matilda Poe and her father, renowned poet, Edgar A. Poe, travel to London to meet fellow poet, Percy Byrnes Shelley and his wife, author Mary Shelley. Unbeknownst to Tilly is that she will be staying with the authors and their children for the time being, as she and her father grieve the loss of her mother. While there, she meets the eldest son of Mary Shelley, Percy, named after his father.
Percy is a somewhat wild soul like his mother, however he inherits the duties of his father, which he often neglects. Tilly is strange to him. She is not only American but also shy and reserved and unlike most girls, not immediately smitten by him.
As Tilly adjusts to living with them, she begins to have strange dreams of her mother, and a cemetery she passed on her way to the Shelley residence, and that of a tall man whom she begins to see everywhere around the same time that one of Percy's friends goes missing.
Together, Tilly and Percy try to unravel the mysteries going on in the home, as well as find their missing friend...
