Hawkins, Indiana, 1986. A town of secrets, whispers, and everything in between the cracks. Eddie Munson is the resident outcast-leather jacket, loud mouth, heavy metal, and devil worshipping rumors to match. He's the kind of senior-well, he's been a senior three times now-who's more at home in detention or Dungeon Mastering in the Hellfire Club than walking the halls like he owns them.
Kimberly Evanson is the opposite in every way. Co-Cheer captain with Crissy. Prom committee. Smiles on command and perfect curls to match. She's the golden girl of Hawkins High-loved, envied, and untouchable.
They hate each other on sight. Maybe it's the clash of worlds. Maybe it's the way neither one of them can stand how the other never backs down. But when a school project forces Eddie and Kimberly into each other's orbit, what starts as pure loathing turns into something else. Something that simmers. Something that grows. Something neither of them is ready to name. In a town full of strange things, maybe the strangest of all is falling in love with the one person you were sure you couldn't stand.

That was until the summer of 1985 when she thought she was just having fun at her summer job scooping ice cream with a couple new friends of hers before discovering that Russian scientists are trying to reopen a door to another dimension called "The Upside Down".
