Shadow Magic Online is the newest, most popular immersive MMORPG. Zara Thompson was a beta tester for the game, which means she will be able to navigate the game with ease. Everyone is waiting anxiously for the game to begin, but as soon as it does something happens that makes everyone think that this is more than just a game.

Eighteen year old gamer Mato Takahara is put in a dangerous position after taking part in a failed BETA test for the world's first virtual reality MMO game(Blades in Paradise) which resulted in him gaining dual personalities due to the AI that established his connection with the game world. The AI which has now gained sentience begins to struggle against Mato for dominance over his soul. Because of this, Mato finds himself embarking on a perilous path in-game in order to master his soul and as thus, restore the thin line which lies between the game world and reality.
