Jason Todd has returned from death with blood on his hands and fire in his heart. He takes on the mantel of Red Hood, but it's not vengeance that keeps him grounded in the end as the Joker is already dead. Jason meets Scarlet, a powerful fire mage with ties to the league of assassins. What starts out as just fun or perhaps a clever idea to get information leads Jason and Scarlet down a path where they start to have something real.
Their life together is a fragile peace built on trust, love, and shared pain. Scarlet's people are fighting a war that ends up threatening to take his life and it's Jason who saves him in the end.
But when a cursed poison strikes down a close ally, Jason and Scarlet are thrown into the heart of a dark conspiracy. An assassin born of cruelty, a cult long thought shattered, and a ghost from Scarlet's nightmares all rise again threatening not just their world, but each other.
Jason must face his past and deal with Bruce and the others who do not know he is alive yet.
As Scarlet's trauma resurfaces in the form of dreams too vivid to ignore and Jason's rage builds with every unanswered threat, the two must stand united against the man who once broke Scarlet and who now wants to drag him back.
