Kang Seo-yeon is the middle child. She's younger than Sae-byeok and older than their little brother, Cheol. They grew up in North Korea, where life was hard, but they stuck together, hoping for a way out.
The first time they tried to escape, things went wrong. Seo-yeon and her mother got caught, but Sae-byeok and Cheol made it through. Their father was killed in the chaos. It broke the family apart.
A year later, Seo-yeon and her mother tried again. This time, it was even worse. Near the border, her mother was shot while trying to protect her. Seo-yeon was hurt but managed to get away.
She made it to South Korea alone, but her sister was missing. She didn't know that Gi-hun, Sae-byeok's friend, had taken Cheol out of the orphanage. To Seo-yeon, Cheol was still lost.
She spent everything she had trying to find Sae-byeok - hiring people, following leads. But nothing worked. She ended up with hospital bills from her injuries and debts she couldn't pay. She had no one left.
One day, Seo-yeon was playing ddakji with a stranger on the street. After she won, he handed her a card with a simple invitation - an opportunity to solve all her problems. With nothing left to lose, Seo-yeon took the card, stepping into a world where the stakes were life and death.
She ends up finding more about her sister. And catches the eye of a certain long haired marine.
