"What the hell was that?" he said, tugging at his sleeve and wiping the tears from his face. His voice cracked as he turned away, disbelief shaking through every breath.

"No... please, it's not what you think!" The other man ran after him-the same man he once believed was incapable of cruelty. He reached out, catching his wrist, desperate for forgiveness.

"I'm done listening to you," he hissed, jerking his arm free with enough force to leave a mark. "Every word you say just makes it worse. Let me go."

He had tried to repair something that shouldn't have been broken in the first place. Fear of losing the person he loved most clawed at him. Not again. Please, not again.

"Please... don't leave me alone," he whispered, his hands trembling as they held the older man's limp one. "I'm begging you."

"What were you thinking, letting go of my hand like that, you stubborn bastard..." His voice broke, tears spilling freely now. The thought of life without him-without his warmth, his voice-was unbearable.

"You said you wanted to know me again, no matter how hard it got. So why does it feel like you're giving up?" His chest tightened as guilt and grief tangled inside him.

Even if those memories were gone, he would make sure they found their way back-piece by piece. Even if it meant losing himself in the process.
