The poetry here falls within six categories. First, my cat, Patty. She was my heart kitty, and while the poems I wrote about her while I was in middle school are embarrassing, I keep them to remember her. Second, teen angst. Puberty was rough for me. I received my diagnosis of depression during middle school, my family moved across the country, and I was just an overall emotional mess. Themes of popularity and fitting in prevail in the poetry I wrote until high school, by which time my head was in a much better place. Third, school. I saved a couple of poems teachers assigned me to write. Fourth, Christian. In college, I joined a campus ministry which placed heavy emphasis on expression through art. My older brother started a writing group, and together with my roommate and her boyfriend, I ended up writing far more poetry than I expected. Much of these poems are what I call "thoughts," although an actual poet would probably call them "free verse." The four of us also wrote collaborative poems, accidentally and intentionally. Fifth, Bible verses. My mom has bi-polar disorder, and she created Word documents full of verses that helped her through tough times. She sent them to me, and I'm posting them here, in case anybody else needs them. Sixth, Vogon poetry. Blame @AprilJester and @SeraDrake for that.
