A while back, my English teacher assigned a sonnet for homework. I was thinking of doing one of the norms for a sonnet, (a sappy, overdramatic, breaking-up-in-the-pouring-rain sort of poem), but the thought bored me... a LOT. So I decided to change the perspective of the piece, and this is the result. I hope you enjoy it!
Keep it Stupefying,
Amy

At 24 years old, Audrey is slowly achieving her dreams. A teacher, working in a challenging, rough-around-the-edges high school, every day is different. Even if it means that occasionally the sports shed burns down, or the police have to make an almost weekly appearance. Her best friend is also a teacher, the life of the party, and the best person to debrief over a glass of wine or three with. She had a handsome and hardworking boyfriend, and a cute little place to call her own. Always ready to play by the rules, Audrey is reliable and respectable, if not a bit boring. But when her life starts to go off the rails, she has some scary decisions to make. She opts to do something completely out of her comfort zone, and just see where it leads her. And to who... A love story about second chances. ¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤¤ "How dare you! I wouldn't touch you with a ten foot pole!" How was he getting under my skin so easily? "That's a pity. I have a ten foot pole I was so keen to show you. I bet I could change your mind." He was enjoying this way too much, and I wasn't going to hang around and let him taunt me any longer. I turned and started packing my things, silently fuming that he was getting off on making me angry. I felt him moving behind me as I worked, and suddenly he was behind me, whispering in my ear. "It would be so easy to unbutton these silly little shorts of yours... and just bend you over the table right now." My body stiffened and stood straight up, my cheeks now the colour of cherries. I stood still, barely breathing, as he traced a finger down my spine. Then it stopped. I heard him back away. And then the library door jolted shut, leaving me in silence again.

"Well, Ms. Ashley, nothing is wrong with you. You're as healthy as ever" I sighed with relief. "So, what happened then?" I asked the doctor. "When was your last menstrual cycle?" "Um over month ago I think, why?" I answered. Why would he ask that? "Your six weeks pregnant" the doctor said. What? Pregnant? Yeah okay, that's funny. "Very funny" "This is no joke, congratulations!" "W-what?" I stuttered. "No, please say your lying" "I'm afraid not" I looked over to Dylan who's eyes were wide and he just stared at me. His eyes moved from mine to my stomach. Oh no... ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Jessica Ashley: smart, funny, beautiful, 17 year old girl who has raised her three year old sister.
