Everyone has a person, THEIR person, their soulmate. In this world, from the moment you're born, you are intertwined with another. Any marks on the skin from one person, whether it be writing with a marker, or wounds, will appear on the other. Once united and the two find undying love for each other, the hurt they share will revert back to how it was before, individual.

When you meet your soulmate, a matching mark appears on your wrist. When your soulmate dies, it scars over. If you find a new soulmate, you get a new mark. Butters thought this to be lies. His mark keeps scarring over but being the same in the morning. It's not like he doesn't try to find the cause of this, but he's just given up. He's broken, he has no soulmate, or his soulmate just keeps dying and raising from the dead, but that would just be silly.
