She told me how the skies called to her, how the birds wanted to teach her to glide
She told me how, when the waves crashed and the tide pooled around her legs, she could feel them tugging too
She told me how, when the sun set, and the night settled in
All she desired was to disappear under a black blanket of darkness
She told me how she could hear wolves howl in the moonlight, crying for her to 'come home'
She told me how the burning stars
taught her how to shine in pitch black and
How, sometimes, her own shadow
seemed to move towards another world, too
Suddenly, one day, she disappeared with the waves
And when the tide washed her footprint too
I thought to myself that possibly she was right all along, and maybe just maybe, she wasn't meant
to be here with humans at all
I felt the sun shine a little brighter, and the stars smile in the night
And as the birds flew to their nest, I heard a howl in the moonlight
Maybe she is finally 'home'
But then, soon after, what I noticed shocked me to my very core
I felt the sky whisper to me
And when the birds flew to their nests, I felt like following them too
How the ocean sings to me a lullaby, and I stand at the shore, calm, and when the sun painted the sky orange, I felt the need to fade away too
Finally, I knew I was just like her when my own shadow didn't follow me 'home'
This is how I found peace after being misunderstood. This is what happens when the noise goes away and I can hear my own voice again.
These poems came from times when I wasn't sure of myself, when I had to learn to let go, and when I had to learn to believe in myself. They are about taking my time to heal, being careful with love, and finding strength in the quiet places. It's not about being broken. It's about what you need to do to rebuild myself when the world keeps telling me that I don't deserve to be who I am,
Themes: healing, survival, false blame, emotional abuse, self-forgiveness, resilience, and rebirth.
