Observer's Paradox - a situation in which the phenomenon being observed is unwittingly influenced by the presence of the observer.

All Quinn wanted was a quiet reset: new flat, new job, something simple.

What he got was a contract with a private security firm that isn't quite what it seems, under a boss who knows far too much about him-and his new neighbours.

Now he's embedded in a mission he doesn't understand, pretending to protect people he's also been told to spy on. The rules keep changing. The danger feels scripted. And reality? Starting to slip.

Observer's Paradox is a speculative military thriller about surveillance, identity, and the invisible patterns that shape our choices - whether we see them or not.

(This version, V2, is subject to random updates and changes. The story is mostly complete, and is the first in an expanded universe. Currently overhauling chapters 2.1 to 2.5, most of 3.3 and 3.5, and bits throughout Arc 1 and 3. Once done, Arc 4 will begin a staggered release.)
(On hiatus while I study what's going on in the political world at the moment because it's honestly great inspiration for the next books in the series. Which is concerning, tbh.)

Because of dangerously quantum apps, a pandemic of fatal neurodegenerative diseases had killed almost all the population. This membrane allows government to exploit them and reduce them to their work, treated as nothing more than a set of arms. Dax is in charge of the configuration of the topcortex. The army produces the implants which are its main source of income. Dax is very brave and selfless. She tries to reduce the award procedure to people to free them. If she succeeds, this can annihilate the army. Its chief Colonel Monarc needs to neutralize Dax. To reach his objective, Monarc destroys experimental results, aspirates thoughts of the ruling class with his topcortex, kills a famous astronaut and destroys his heart given to replace Telio's. Monarc wants to impose on Dax an artificial heart for Telio. By controlling the cardiac implant of Telio, Monarc will dominate Dax. Dax changes the rules of the game and will pay the ultimate sacrifice even if she unveils her secret. The Atlas crew has been torn apart. Most have ETS'd or left the military due to injuries incurred in line of duty. Of the original crew, only a handful remain. Trauma and shared pain have begun to drive apart the surviving members of Echo-Five-Actual. The Atlas Crew, mostly wiped out in a deadly explosion the year before, is fragmenting as promotions, replacements, and drop on requests have left the crew with more new faces than old. Those who remain of Echo-Five-Actual have been split into different work crews, promoted, ETS's, left due to injuries, or died. Accidents and a coordinated strike by the KGB have wreaked havoc on III CosCom, VII Corps and V Corps ability to wage war if the Soviet Union decides to invade Western Europe, and this has hit 2/19th hard. With most of the effective and experienced members dead, missing, or in the hospital, 2/19th's chain of command is shattered and people have slipped through the cracks. Including Stillwater, who is trapped, alone, on the mountain. And Cromwell, who is locked in the War Fighter Tunnels with 18 women, 7 of them pregnant, three infants, and two male soldiers undergoing chapters to put them out of the military. Bomber and Nagle are hospitalized, having barely survived the attacks that killed many other members of the unit. Bomber is comatose, the bullet meant to kill him trapping him in memories and dreams of the past. Nagle is in ICU, unable to speak after having been shot through the throat. Now, they don't even have each other. And nobody is coming to the rescue. Author's Note: Thanks to Twitter user @tikibomber for providing me with a Gaelic/English dictionary. http://www.focloir.ie/
The Double Cult Cha-Cha: An Al Squires of the Protectorate Story (Book 1) de ddubtyn
49 partes Concluida Contenido adulto
If you met ever met Al Squires, you'd never know that this eccentric, mercurial, irreverent, snarky, arrogant, occasionally accident prone, half-crazed (self proclaimed) genius son of a witch and mad scientist was a special secret agent. One that any agency would hire, at least. But, then again, The Protectorate, the Multiversal multi-faceted organization that keeps the Balance between Order and Chaos throughout the Multiverse in check, isn't the kind of organization that you're used to. Here is the first in an exciting, philosophical, thought-provoking, mind-bending, and genre-blending series. In this story: After a successful bust in an interdimensional black market warehouse, Al accidentally releases a twentysomething young woman in a stasis pod. After being forced by his boss to take responsibility for her and protect her, he later learned that she appears to be just a Blando-Rando, a regular human being who isn't In the Know. Which, he hates, because 'Blando-Rondo babysitter' isn't one of his many (self-described) skills. But, after seeing her very dormant powers awaken as they're both being chased by two different cults- one wants to sacrifice her, and the other wants to preserve her forever- Al learns that the biggest adventures can begin unexpectedly. If you knew about Multiverse Theory, then you know that anything that CAN happen, WILL happen; if not in this universe, then in another. Well, in an Al Squires of the Protectorate story, anything CAN and WILL happen.
The Debt Collectors War de TessMackenzie
96 partes Concluida
Ellie is a soldier in a world without governments. A generation ago, a series of financial crises caused most of the world’s governments to collapse, and left many of the people in those countries in terrible personal debt. Since then, the worst debtor nations have been under military occupation by the troops of the debt recovery corporations, and the worst debtor of all is Měi-guó, the old United States. Ellie is serving in the Afghan Police Action when she receives bad news from home. She is told the daughter she hasn’t seen in years is dead. She flies home from war, upset, to do what needs to be done, but once there she finds out all is not as it seems. Ellie’s daughter is alive and unhurt. She is being held by of one of the many debt-recovery corporations. Held, for leverage, to make Ellie do the corporation a favour. Ellie’s daughter will be returned unharmed if Ellie does as they wish. The son of a company director is lost somewhere in the wilderness of post-debt-restructuring America, and hasn't been seen for three days. The company wants Ellie to go and find the kid, and Ellie doesn't know if she can. The one rule she's stuck to all her working life is to never to go to America, but now she might have to. She will have to, if she wants to save the daughter she hasn't seen in years. This is fairly dark and gritty near-future dystopian SF. ----- Debt Collectors War is now on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QZG1RHI/ Also on iTunes and B&N and other places. Just if that's easier to read that way! But please don't feel obliged or anything, and thank you for looking -----

He has only ever written one book - and he's never been able to write another. When he discovers an old manuscript in his office, he assumes it's just another abandoned idea. But as he reads it, a disturbing patter emerges. The words on the page are eerily familiar, mirroring his own life with impossible accuracy. At first, its coincidence. Then, it starts predicting his actions before they happen. Reality blurs. Memories shifts. And the deeper he reads, the more the world him begins to unravel.
